Joe: Charlie and I worked together at EKCO Group / World Kitchen. Charlie as the VP of IT and I ran a business unit. Charlie's skills are much broader than IT. He is an excellent problem solver and as such was invited by me, and other GM's, to actively participate with strategy and business planning.
His IT expertise, and general concern for the overall business was valued by all. An example of his IT experience is: One year after the initial implementation of the new ERP and WMS systems at EKCO, a senior management decision was made to restructure the organization from a pure by Business Unit approach to a centralized order-to-cash operation with decentralized manufacturing. Unfortunately, the base ERP system did not support this particular configuration. Charlie worked with a small group of business leaders to hash out our requirements, and then worked with his IT people to design a solution. His solution would minimize changes to the ERP code, while allowing the manufacturing plants to operate ERP independently near 24/7, and fully support a centralized focus on finished goods inventory, the order-to-cash and planning processes. Charlie’s IT team was able to build, test, and implement the solution in less than 6 months. The solution met all of the business requirements, and was implemented without disruption to the business operation. Catherine: Charlie and I had our best opportunity to work together in our time at SSA Global. When I worked with him there, he had two roles: initially, I knew him as a senior ERP Product Development Manager.
